Goodbye to Teoh Beng Hock

More than 2,000 people gathered on Monday to pay their last respects to Teoh Beng Hock at his family home in Taman Sri Kelemak here before his body was taken to its final resting place at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih, Selangor.

Mourners, a majority of whom were DAP and PKR supporters in black T-shirts, had gathered as early as 8am to witness the last rites before his coffin was sealed at 9:15am and the final prayers held.

Teoh’s grieving family members and relatives, joined together by friends and members of the public, paid their final respects before the hearse left the home at about 11am.

Many were in tears, including members of the public and his political colleagues.

DAP and PKR members led the cortège in a 500m procession, carrying two banners that read “Justice For Beng Hock” and “Answers For The People.” A 10m by 8m banner with Beng Hock’s portrait and similar words was later unfurled.

The cortège left Malacca and headed for the Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih for Teoh’s burial.

Amongst those present to pay their final respects were senior PKR and DAP leaders such as Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Lim Guan Eng, Azmin Ali and PKR’s newest member, Datuk Chua Jui Meng.
